Methods used by airlines to determine ticket prices

This is the first in a series of articles to explain why the fares paid by the travelling public have become so varied and the rules so complex. The price of a ticket has many factors including the rules associated with a fare, the scheduled routes of the airlines, the expected demand for a ticket, and the number of competitor airlines in a market. The routing of passengers and the impact the routings may have on the price paid for a fare is covered in this issue.
