Media relations — What can the hotel industry learn?

Pamela Carvell

Pampas International Marketing, 1 Glade House, High Street, Sunninghill, Berkshire SL5 9PU, UK

Public relations and in particular media relations should form an essential part of any hotel business. The basic disciplines of planning and measuring performance should be applied to PR as they are to other business disciplines. Press releases are the most used method of generating media coverage, although other communication methods should be used as relevant. It is important to understand the differences between news and features.

Key Words: media relations • news stories • features • press releases • press coverage
