This paper reviews current hotel development in China by examining and analysing hotel geographic distributions, ownership structures operation revenues and financial performance. The operation performance by star-rated hotels and non star-rated hotels is examined and compared. It discusses China's current development focus on destination resort and identifies the need for midscale and budget hotel development for domestic tourists. Market changes are analysed and potential business opportunities are identified for future hotel development.
